Laser spectroscopy

For a long time laser spectroscopy has been a source of inspiration for EKSPLA laser engineers. Our tunable-wavelength, picosecond and nanosecond lasers probe matter in techniques such as SFG, pump-probe and terahertz spectroscopy, photolysis, LIBS and LIDAR.

High-speed imaging

High-speed imaging records ultrafast processes at frame rates from thousands to millions of frames per second. Time-resolved visualization of transient phenomena reveals fast dynamics that conventional imaging cannot follow: bubble collapse, shock-wave propagation and jet formation on microsecond and shorter timescales.

Short laser pulses play two roles in these experiments: they drive the phenomena under study and they illuminate them. In the cited studies, pulses from a FemtoLux 3 femtosecond laser generate cavitation bubbles whose collapse launches shock waves and supersonic microjets exceeding 1000 m/s, while femtosecond illumination freezes that motion for the camera.
