Processing of metal
Femtosecond lasers enable the production of complex shapes and features, while also providing the capability to perform black/white marking and coloring without the need for chemical additives.
Black/color marking of metals
One of the largest applications of lasers is metal marking and coloring. Femtosecond lasers can structure the metal surface, making it rough and highly absorbent of incident light, resulting in high-contrast black markings. These markings not only provide high contrast but also exhibit strong resistance to environmental effects. Additionally, by gently heating metal surface and carefully managing the thickness of the oxide layer formed on the surface, specific colors can be achieved.
The FemtoLux 30 laser is an ideal choice for black marking applications. With ultra-short pulse durations of 350 fs, it can produce high-contrast, durable black markings on metals like stainless steel, making it suitable for medical tweezers and other medical applications. Furthermore, by utilizing GHz burst technology, the FemtoLux 30 allows precise control over the thermal load induced on the metal sample, enabling metal coloring. By adjusting the number of pulses in the burst, controllable thickness oxide layers can be formed, resulting in vibrant colors such as blue, cyan, green, yellow, orange, pink, and red, all without any chemical additives.
